The middle class has been decimated by corporate economic dominance. I am Chris Polster. My private economic system is expressly for solopreneurs, reversing a 50-year trend sucking income and wealth away from the middle class.
I was fired for the first time in my life as a 61-year-old man in 2011. Minnesota is an 'at will' state, but as an older adult, my employer needed cause to rid themselves of me because my performance was exceptional, and they did not want to pay unemployment. Minnesota is an 'at will' state, but as an older adult, my employer needed cause to rid themselves of me because my performance was exceptional, and they did not want to pay unemployment. I decided against an age discrimination lawsuit, however, after speaking with an attorney.
With nothing but two credit cards to live on, I concluded that finding customers would be easier than finding a job that will pay me enough to build a retirement plan. I started Retired But Working to create an asset that I could someday sell. But what kind of business?
I began sustaining my life with Social Security income when I turned 62, and officiating youth sports as an independent contractor. I also secured independent contractor work inspecting erosion control installations at solar field sites. After much research, I discovered that our economy is built for corporate America, not solopreneurs! As it happens, there is little money circulating to the 65 million solopreneurs who are either working full time on their businesses or simply trying to earn extra cash.
A symptom of the corporate dominated economic system is the consolidation of income and wealth that has decimated the middle class.

A symptom of the corporate dominated economic system is the consolidation of income and wealth that has decimated the middle class.
This problem exists for 80% of consumer households where 50% of the consumer spending occurs from just 20% of households.
The economy is a system that supposedly works for everybody, as businesses produce products from the labor of consumers, and consumers spend their earnings on the products they produce with businesses!
This is called "The circular flow of money".
I created a private economic membership-based system expressly for solopreneurs, drawing on my years of organizational management experience and expertise. The system is independent of the overall corporate economy but working within its regulatory and competitive scope.
The strategy is to assemble millions of consumer members having a common interest in rebuilding the middle class in their own self-interests, by competing directly against corporate America for consumer spending, but as independent business owners potentially generating limitless sales, not as employees earning limited wages.
Acting intentionally, in unity and solidarity within the system, members collectively attract spending from outside of the membership to be circulated within, but most importantly, by spending among themselves first, whenever possible, they retain the membership's money supply, from which members must then compete.
As a result, the system increases the amount of money flowing to members, produces access to more human resources, and invites volume pricing per unit, as enjoyed by corporations with employees.
Finally, members can systematically increase their monthly cash flow and build an asset that will produce retirement income without sequestering income in a retirement account.
This system inspires and empowers solopreneurs to resurrect the middle class to its former economic influence as a legacy to our posterity, which is my personal 'why'!
